Free Swimming for Kids

Free swimming is a local, council-funded scheme which enables Portsmouth residents 12 years old and under to apply for a card giving access to swim for free at 3 council-run pools in the city.

Free swimming is a council initiative that enables Portsmouth residents aged 12 and under to have free access to swimming pools. It does not provide for swimming lessons although these can be booked through our leisure and sports facilities delivery partner, BH Live.

This initiative is only available during term times between 9.00am and 3.00pm and subject to the pools capacity

It will be dependent on demand, usage may be restricted at certain times and may be subject to change without notice

Admission is with a parent or accompanying adult with a maximum of 1 adult to three under 12’s

You will need to provide proof of residency PO1 – PO6

You will also need to provide of age, i.e. birth certificate, valid passport

Attend one of the following venues:

  • Mountbatten swimming pool
  • Charter Community Sports Centre
  • Eastney swimming pool

A computer based form is available at any of the sites and a BH Live Experience Card will be issued which you can then use to gain free entry.

BH Live may reserve the right to refuse free swimming if in their opinion the conduct of the individual is inappropriate or objectionable.  Customers are expected to use the facilities in an appropriate manner and give proper regard to their own health and safety and that of others.

Customer details will be recorded but only for usage analysis.
